Qatar television transmits in both Arabic and English, with the 'Second Channel' broadcasting exclusively in English. Qatar is also home to the government-financed al-Jazeera Arabic television channel, broadcast around the world.
Cable television is very popular here, with 'Qatar Cablevision' retransmitting 60 satellite TV stations.
The Qatar Broadcasting Service (QBS) transmits in English on FM 97.5 MHz, covering a wide range of music, entertainment and news programmes. There is also a daily French language programme on FM 100.8.
Qatar has two daily English language newspapers, the Gulf Times and The Peninsula, It is also possible to buy foreign newspapers in Doha including The International Herald Tribune and The Times. There is a locally published English-language magazine called Marhaba, which provides useful information about Qatar for visitors and expatriates.
