You would also need to investigate your pension arrangements before moving to France. Aim to inform the relevant agency (the Department of Social Security or equivalent) a few weeks before you intend to depart, so that the necessary administrative process can begin. For UK citizens, there are a couple of forms you may find useful, depending on your circumstances:
- Form E106 - this provides medical cover for up to 2 years, so would be needed by people already receiving a private pension, but not yet their state pension. Contact the D.S.S about this. It may be worth taking out private insurance or making voluntary contributions when the E106 expires or if you are not yet at state retirement age (contact your local French social security office).
- Form E121GB - if you only receive a UK state pension, or will receive a EU pension at a later date, this form will allow you to register for health care in France. This form can be requested from the D.S.S.
- Leaflet SA29, entitled "Your special security, health care and pensions rights in the European Community" is likely to be very helpful.
