As far as television is concerned, programmes can be broadcast in either Mandarin, Cantonese or English. Additionally, televisions have a function that allows them to receive programmes broadcast in simultaneous languages. This is called Nicam and generally an announcement will be made stating that it is a Nicam broadcast.
You may also wish to ensure that your TV can pick up English stations and not just the local ones. Cable is useful for English language shows as you will otherwise be limited to two stations.
