Hi there

My name is Ayse and I am an Australian with a Turkish background who has been living in London for the past 7 years. My husband (non Turk) and I will be moving to Gundogan, Bodrum at the beginning of July.

What I wanted to find out is what do non Turks find is missing when living in a foreign country? Could it be an English library? Or a monthly gathering to network with others? Or a shop selling goods from back home?

Would love to hear your thoughts...

Ayse Very Happy

Hi Ayse,

I am just down the road from Bodrum in Didim.

In the beginning I missed a lot of things however now I am struggling to think of things. I can find English books by going to Izmir or ordering over the internet. There are weekly meet ups of foreign woman however I do not tend to go to these.

Ah I have just thought of something. English flour. The flour here is so hard and to bake a cake I need to add tons of baking powder but it still does not taste the same. Even my Turkish husband has admitted my cakes taste better with english flour.

TBH, over time the body and mind adapts and before you know it, turkey has become your home.

Hi Ayse,

We are english from Brighton. We in November 2009 are moving to Gumusluk, after 4 years to & fro to our home there. With exception of friends/family we miss nothing from UK.
