Hi everyone,

Myself and boyfriend are looking at possible options of going away for a yr or so before starting a family. My boyfriend is 31 and im 26 so I dont know how this will affect visas etc? We like the idea of New Zealand or Canada as both outdoor type people plus my boyf will be looking to do a ski course and hopefully have a season of instructing. What I need to know is if anyone as had any experience with this, is it easy to find work/ accommodation? Plus most importantly finding work in the summer months? Im happy to do whatever work I can get, I come from sales background but very active too.

We will rent our house out so really looking long term, would def consider extending stay if this is an option.

Iv looked though various tourist websites but really dont know where to start so and info/ advice would be appreciated.

Hi Kelly,

Most Visa programs are seeking those who want to permanently reside in NZ. You can however look into what is called a LTBV--Long Term Business Visa or work visa. Check out www.immigration.govt.nz for details on whether or not you qualify. These can offer you between 9 months and 3 years of uninterupted stay

For accomodations look at www.trademe.co.nz

Skiing is mostly conducted on the South Island in the Queenstown/Wanaka Region although the North Island has Mt Ruapehu and Mt Cook, also in the SI.

Most instructors are seasonal in nature and some are back packers earning a little winter cash befor returning home.

Its not a difficult task you are seeking but does require a bit of front loaded work.

Also check out www.nzski.co.nz

Good luck
