Please can anyone helpme, my family are arriving on the 7th-17th for their first visit and l have been let down on car hire, and l can't get another for love nor money, is there any one who has a spare car they woud be willing to loan me for payment of course, l am in the Silves area but happy to go anywhere, as without a car yhe holiday will be ruined, we have our car but in total there will be 8 of us including 4 little ones

Hi, I have just done a search and www.yor-car.com have availability from Faro airport fot the dates you want at a reasonable price.

I have heard that there is a huge shortage of hire cars this year.
Friends of mine were let down at the last minute and could only get one week out of the three that they are here......

I am reliably informed that there are no hire cars in the Algarve!!! Companies have even confirmed bookings and taken the Visa Card details and only told the unfortunate holiday-makers as they arrive at Faro. I'd really like someone to take action as this must be an illegal act. However, it does not solve your problem and, unfortunately, I do not have a spare car or a solution for you. One of my friends has had to rely on taxis; not an ideal solution. Another managed to borrow a car.

There is an article about the shortage of hire cars in the Algarve Resident, it seems the companies thought that there would be less demand because of the economic climate, so did not buy enough cars and the demand has caught them out!

Thanks for all your replies, luckily a contact at a hotel has managed to get
us a car (the last one apparently)Yor car are saying they have cars on their website but they actually have none, but thank you for looking.

I agree that something should be done for the people who are arriving having pre booked, only to be told they cannot now have a car, l too am sure this cannot be legal and can only harm the tourist view of Portugal further, lknow l would be very angry if it happened to me

Doesn't make it right though eh? I just think of the p[oor people arriving

Sorry, having mental blank this morning ....What is the name of the trading Standards in Portugal?

Would a Portuguese car hire company have a complaints book?

This is dreadful, as digger says "I just think of the p[oor people arriving

Also, if not already done, don't book a car with a carhire company beginning with G at Lisbon airport. My son waited three hours to pick up his car, when he'd pre-booked it months ago. The queue at this company was 10 times longer than other car hire companies and it was taking them 20 minutes to process each renter - why i don't know when they already have all your details from the original booking form.. When he got the car it was an old one with scratches everywhere and the air con doesn't work. Ruined the first day of his holiday. K
