Hi!
I'm moving to Casablanca for a year, I'm Spanish and I wonder if I can take my car with me.
A mate has told me that I can only do that for 6 months, then I have to pay the custom taxes.
Wouldn't it be possible to go up to Ceuta or Melilla after 6 months, cross the border and then getting into Morocco again?
I've just been living in Algeria and that's what I've done there, I crossed the border with Tunisia all the 3 months.

Hi Al_turtusi,
I drove my car to Morocco last February from the UK and had 6 months free of customs duty. Then after, I took the car to Malaga, and returning a week later, I got just 1 month free. (unfortunately I misread the date, and had to pay a large fine for having the car an extra month here), but thats another story. I think you get just 1 month after the first 6.
Unless you want to keep driving to Ceuta etc every month, you have to change the plates for a moroccan number. Changing the plates/plaques is expensive too, unless you work for your government in Morocco and are eligible for "Yellow plates". For example, a 1993 Golf diesel, 270,000 miles (!) on the clock would have cost about 5000 Euro to the customs to change the plates. You can find the prices online at www.douane.gov.ma/Edouane
Best of luck with whatever you decide- an as aside- anyone got a Moroccan registered car they would like to sell?

Hi,
the best way is to buy a small new car here or to rent one. You can bring your car 6 months per year here...
Good luck

I was just wondering how much would it cost to get a cheap car in Morocco? I'm moving to Casa in July and was thinking of buying a car out there....not sure yet though!
