Hi all,

I'm an EU national, thinking of moving to Netherlands for a post doc position with a University. I have been offered 2700 Euros gross income, but I have no idea what my net monthly income will be, so I can't decide on house renting etc. I had a brief look at the tax system, but it seemed so complicated! Do I have to do anything towards tax exemptions, or will that be sorted by the University? Any guestimates on a net monthly income will be very welcomed.

Any other advice, ie renting, heating, grossery expenses will also be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nashkes,

The Dutch tax system is complicated, not only for expats but also for the Dutch themselves.
As a general rule you can count that 2/3 of your gross income is your nett income.
Regarding expenses: if you have a gross income of about 1500 euro (no wife or children), you can manage it if you don't have a luxury life.
So, with the income you have been offered you can live in the Netherlands and even save some money.
I would advice to rent a house/appartment for a start. If you plan to stay here for a longer period, you can consider to buy.

It might be an idea to contact a relocation service to help you sort out everything and/or contact the University to find out if they can give you any help.

Some relocation companies are:
Corstjens www.corstjens.com
Crown www.crownrelo.com
Easy relocation www.easyrelocations.nl
Eurohome www.eurohome.nl
GRS Global Relocation Services www.grs-relocation.com
Primacy www.primacy.com

Hope this helps,
Agnes
