We have a job offer to relocate to holland in january but all 3 of our children have dyslexia ranging from mild problems to moderate. They have all struggled in the international system in other countries where the special needs provision is inadequate at best and are significantly behind their peers although the Ed Psych report tells us they have great potential!!

The children are getting to an age (7, 10, 11) where we can not take any more educational risks. Can any one help me with their experience of the international schools (british schooling) in either Amsterdam or Den haag.

Can these schools really cope with dyslexic children? What support are they given? Are the teachers qualified in dealing with special needs?
What accomodations are they given?

Thanks

Caroline

Hi Caroline,

Welcome to this forum. Have you already contacted the British School in the Netherlands (www.britishschool.nl) ? It is located in The Hague (Junior School) and Voorschoten (near the Hague, Senior School). According to their website they offer also help for children with special educational needs.
I don't have experience with this school, but may be somebody else has.

You can also contact ACCESS (mail: helpdesk-dh @ access-nl.org or phone + 31 70 3462525). ACCESS provides information and advice for expats in the Netherlands. They might be able to give you more information about schools for children with special needs.

Kind regards,
Agnes
