I have just gleaned from another site, that Easyjet have announced they are starting a Luton/Istanbul service from the 29th June.
Prices starting from 30.99quid, booking from today.

Just as a little add on. If you then want to get to the south, Izmir, Kusadasi
There are several overnight coaches from the Otogar, but one of the cheapest is Kamilkoc, and they leave 11pm and get to Izmir about 08.30.
fare? 34ytl about 15quid.

I am considering a short trip to Istanbul and as it will be my first visit, wonder whether 3 days would be long enough. Can you recommend a good guide book or website in order for me to maximise my stay. It is for tourism only so which is the best part of the city for accommodation for two females.

Its never enough but if you have no more time it have to do it. here is so many different things to see, over 1000 years of history!
I will recommend you to stay over Bosphorus if your budget allows that. Then the other choices are Sultanahmet and Taksim.
I wish you a pleasent travel,
Jyrki

Thanks. Haven't even started looking at the options yet but will take account of what you have said, once I start planning the trip properly.

Most Turkish people I know swear that you should use Varan because of their superior accident record - scary!
