Hi All,
Our names are Phil (42) and Jayne (35), we currently live in Shanklin IOW and are looking to move to Doha as I have been offered a job with Qatar Airways. We have lived in Sri Lanka for 2 years and Holland for 5 years so we are not too green but we always like to gather as much detail as poss.
We have a baby girl 2yrs (Sorcha) a another daughter (15) (kevin... ugh) not Siobhan really plus a dog called Pilzbry.
We have several questions about Doha. Laughing
1) Can we bring the dog into the country?
2) What are the best agents for accomadation?
3) Where is the best place to setup camp?
4) Are there any issues about mozzies and illness?
5) Is the redback spider a problem with kids ( me really I am so scared of the eight legged things, and i'm 42)

Any other help or advice of course would be very useful.......
Thanks in advance.

A warm welcome to Expat Focus!

I'm afraid I can't help with any of your questions specifically but I can tell you there's nothing wrong with being scared of spiders! Have you been told there are a lot of the beasts in Doha?

Cheers,

Jamie

Hi Phil and Jayne,

answer to question one, you can bring your dog in, although according to the book I have (freebie from the hotel) certain large breeds are excluded, Rotties, Bulldogs, Great Danes and Dobermans. (Although I am not sure how accurate that is) It says that its often easier to bring in a dog through a shipping agent.
Here is a site for a business in Doha that will be able to give you more info.

www.ppkdoha.com/boarding.htm

I have a 17year old daughter and a 12 year old son, he's about to hit 13 in October and I have already noticed the winddown to Kevin status. Its scary!

So far, not seen any redbacks. Although a search on the net should set your mind at rest about their habits - as always its the female whos the meanie! lol.

Doha is a good place to base yourself, although Dukhan is supposed to be very nice.

There are a lot of compounds and villas being built here to cope with the influx of people, and lots of rental agents. Check out www.gulf-times.com for their classified pages to give you some ideas of price ranges.

Good luck if you decide to move to Qatar, its a great place to live. We came here in January after nearly 4 years in Saudi. We really like it here and even better, the kids like it too.
