A warm welcome to Expat Focus!
I'm afraid I can't help with any of your questions specifically but I can tell you there's nothing wrong with being scared of spiders! Have you been told there are a lot of the beasts in Doha?
Cheers,
Jamie

Hi Phil and Jayne,
answer to question one, you can bring your dog in, although according to the book I have (freebie from the hotel) certain large breeds are excluded, Rotties, Bulldogs, Great Danes and Dobermans. (Although I am not sure how accurate that is) It says that its often easier to bring in a dog through a shipping agent.
Here is a site for a business in Doha that will be able to give you more info.
www.ppkdoha.com/boarding.htm
I have a 17year old daughter and a 12 year old son, he's about to hit 13 in October and I have already noticed the winddown to Kevin status. Its scary!
So far, not seen any redbacks. Although a search on the net should set your mind at rest about their habits - as always its the female whos the meanie! lol.
Doha is a good place to base yourself, although Dukhan is supposed to be very nice.
There are a lot of compounds and villas being built here to cope with the influx of people, and lots of rental agents. Check out www.gulf-times.com for their classified pages to give you some ideas of price ranges.
Good luck if you decide to move to Qatar, its a great place to live. We came here in January after nearly 4 years in Saudi. We really like it here and even better, the kids like it too.
Mellie
