Metro to adnan menderes airport

Post Posted: Wed Jan 19, 2011 2:47 pm

Good news! The train now goes right into the airport.
Starts at Alsancak, in the centre of town, near the harbour/liman. One may even get on at Bornova or on the Cigli/Karsiyaka side and change at Halkapinar; go up the stairs then down to the other platform/peron.
Get on a train going to Cumaovasi, the airport is the second to last stop. In Turkish it is called Havaalani and/or Havalimani! There are announcements in English on the train and Airport is signed at the stop!
The train is new, comfortable and there is luggage space at floor level. The doors need to have the button pressed to leave or enter the train.
Takes about 40 mins, a long, leisurely run through gece kondu (sub standard housing) type areas w/washing decorating the spiked railings that guard the track!
Depending where one boards the train, it costs one or two swipes of the Kent Kart ( 1.50 TL for one swipe) but if the whole journey is completed within an hour, the second swipe is less.

Kalkis means leave. Izban means Izmir banlyo (Izmir suburbs)
