Is it true?
Was reading one of my "Moving to Canada" books at the weekend, and came across a paragraph that said Canadians only get two weeks holiday a year! Is this true? I know that it will differ a little depending on the job your doing but wondered if anyone could let me know what the average is? Have to be able to let the family know how often they can visit

THat is the Minumum amount of annual vacation for a new hire. It is the minimum that the labour laws requre an employer to give a person in their first year of employment.
Depending on if you are working in a union environment, or not, your annual vacation is based on either the union contract with the employer, or the Provincial labour act regulations where you live.
The amount of annual vacation is usually based on "years of service " with the employer, and the longer the service, the longer the annual vacation given. The employer reserves the right to approve your vacation time off request, based on the needs of the firm, and the need to maintain staffing levels. Usually, the vacation requests are put in in the early part of the calender year, and if approved , you get a written acknowledgement . Seniority rules as far who gets the most popular times in July and August.
Hope this has been helpfull to you.
Cheers Jim Bunting.
