BANNED FROM TAIWAN DESPITE HAVING A WIFE AND CHILD

Post Posted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 4:57 am

Hi, my name is John Edward Curtis I'm a British citizen and my wife is Taiwanese. We have a young 9month old daughter who has duel British/Taiwanese citizenship. We wish to live in Taiwan but I had over-stayed my visa in Taiwan. As, a consequence of over-staying I had to pay a hefty fine and taxes which I did before I left Taiwan on 1st October 2008. During our time in Britain, we collected all the documents requested by the Taiwanese government in order for me to return to Taiwan. With all our documents ready my wife and daughter returned to Taiwan 29th January 2009 to request my return to Taiwan. However, despite having all the required documentation the Taiwanese government refused to allow me to return. So now my wife and daughter will face hardship and chronic poverty trying to survive in Taiwan without me, as she'll be unable to work as she needs to look after our daughter. Her family can't support her as her father is deceased and her mother is currently under-going chemotherapy for cancer. The Taiwanese government are directly putting my family in a dire situation by refusing me to return to Taiwan before July 2010, despite the fact I complied with all their requests by paying their fines & taxes and giving them all the required documentation. On my file it states I was a 'missing foreigner' and not an 'over-stay'. So I received a 3year ban but this was reduced to 1yr 6months due to the fact I'm married to a Taiwanese citizen. I have emailed the immigration authority pleading with them to allow my return, but they refuse, stating I have already had my punishment reduced.

Have you got any advice for what I can do?

John-
I've just joined ExpatFocus and just now read your email from over a year ago. What's happened since then? Did u finally get admittance to Taiwan? How is the family now?

My wife is Taiwanese and we've had 4 children and 6 grand children in our 42 years of marriage. We've never lived in Taiwan (live in Houston,Texas USA) but visit there about once every 2 years and stay about a month each time. I'm a retired airline management type so traveling is- for my wife and I- no problem.

Reply when able.

Assume this has been long resolved. If this were me, only choice would be to move everyone back to the uk. Seems like Taiwan govt gave you their reply and that is that.
