How much to move furniture from UK

Post Posted: Sun Mar 19, 2006 12:07 am

My subject pretty much asks it all. I am thinking about moving from Scotland to the Netherlands and I'm looking at the cost. Would anyone mind sharing how much it cost them to move their furniture. I do only live in a flat and don't have too much, but I think I'm still going to be shocked.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Hi

We have done this move a couple of times! This time (November last year) we stored most of our furniture and just hired a smaller van & brought much less stuff.

I'd put the costs at about £500 - £600 as we live north of Inverness so cost of petrol to and from Hull was a factor, but I'm sure its possible to do it a bit cheaper. We came over one night, offloaded, and went back the next using the overnight ferries. We have used ferries Hull/Rotterdam and Newcastle/Ijmuiden, but it all depends where you are leaving from and where you need to get to.

Alternatively you could come over. hire a van over here and go back and collect your stuff. We found more places over here willing to rent vans to take to the UK, but most of the big companies like Avis and Budget don't their vehicles out of the country (NL or UK).

Let me know if you want to know anything more,
Val

Thanks Val for the reply.

When it cost you around 500 pounds, was that with a removal company or with you renting a van and doing it yourself?

Hired a van and did it ourselves, both times.
