Hi Phill,

I have recently moved to Zante, and was wondering if you are still here, if so how did you get on with buying the car? I am looking for a car to buy but just need a little advice on the ins and outs of it if you would be so kind as to help a little?

Many Thanks

Gary

Hello,
I am a Greek lawyer helping the British community in Greece. You will need certainly a Greek tax number (AFM) which you can get from the tax office in your area by showing your UK passport, and a valid UK driving license. If there are any other problems, please let me know.
Thanks,
Pavlos Oikonomou-Gkouras.

Hello,
I also need to add that it might be necessary before going to the tax office to visit the local police station or perhaps more likely the police headquarters in Zante to get a residence permit for EU citizens. The UK has not left up to now the EU, so there should be no problem.

There are car sales representatives in the isle of Zante, usually in the capital town, the seat of the prefecture where the local government is located. I do not know whether that particular type of car is offered there for sale by some car merchant.
If not you can go to Patras, which is about 3 hours by ferry. I think the ferry from Zante might go to Kyllini, and from there you will have to take a bus to Patras, which is the third largest city in Greece with 150,000 residents. It is the seat of the Court of Appeal of the whole region, including Kefalonia and Zante. You can find car salesmen of all types of cars there.
