Legalities of RETURNING to Germany for citizen after years
These are people I know whose technical skills are such that I would not recommend they join a forum.
One lady was born in Germany and married an American soldier, who is long-gone. (I do not know whether deceased or divorced.) She has been in USA for decades. She claims to have forgotten how to speak German, but still has a strong accent when speaking English.
Her daughter, born in USA, lives with her. Does not speak German. If she moved to Germany, she would probably learn it well enough, but if told in advance it is required, she probably would not go.
Unless I am misinformed, the daughter is not automatically a citizen because her father was not a citizen and she was born prior to 1975.
Daughter has U.S. Social Security. I do not know if mother has income. They live together and are neither poor nor rich. I do not know exact age; daughter 52-70.
This of course is not the situation that most websites discuss. Would they be eligible to move to Germany? Or to live there for a year? Would the application be very difficult?
