Advise needed! Looking to move to France with French husband

Post Posted: Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:53 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for some much needed advice and people who have experienced a similar situation. I am turning to the cyber world because my own personal research has left me with not much viable information!

My husband and I are looking to relocate back to France, Marseille to be specific or the surrounding area. This area is where his family is situated. A little background on myself and husband. We met while I was studying abroad in France we have been together ever since. Before I graduated college he moved to the U.S. and we decided to get married once I graduated. We have been together for 3 years, living in the U.S. However, we have decided that we would like to spend our life in France.

A major concern for us is that I will not be able to find a job. I am not fluent in French, I understand most of the language but it is hard for me to express myself and I know this is a major concern especially for a very proud country that France is! I am willing to do any job just to have an income until I can master the language to obtain a more corporate job.

I am asking for some advice on where I can look for a job or if this is even a realistic venture. I have seen things about babysitting and teaching English but I would like to know if anyone has any other options or if you have experienced a similar transition, your experience would be much appreciated!

Thank you in advance for helping me and my husband. It has been a very difficult discussion to make but we believe that this is the right steps towards the life we want.

Hi Mariette,

not sure what your education and work experience is and whether you'd be interested in something like this at all, but advertising agencies are often looking for English native speakers to work with their international clients. I didn't speak a word French when I got the job in Paris as I do all of my work in English. Not sure whether this is an option at all in Marseille, but it might be worth looking into.

Good luck with your move!
