Shipping a left hand drive automobile to the UK

Post Posted: Sat Jan 28, 2006 5:43 am

I am considering accepting a job in the UK. Can anyone share their experiences with driving a vehicle with the steering wheel on the left side in the UK?

Hi US-PAC,
Buy a car in the UK, they're cheap as chips!
Log on to www.autotrader.co.uk at some stage you will have to enter a postcode, If you have the postcode of your prospective employers, enter that, and the type of car etc. you want, the amount etc. and see what comes up! waste of time importing a car from USA.

Thanks for the response. I actually own a small automobile in good shape and that is what lead me to the question. It will cost $800 to $1000 US dollars to ship the automobile. I may also have to pay import fees, customs fees, inspection fees, etc. So I also came to the conclusion it is cheaper and much easier to buy a car in the UK. I have looked at the web site listed and it is very helpful.

Again thanks.

I did this a few times now between 2004 and 2017. You asked this question a few years ago so I hope this helps others looking do the same thing. I put my experience and checklist of things to do, costs, shipping, regitration etc at www.import-car.info and hope you find it useful.
