Texan Moving to Spain
Hola. A couple of years ago my wife and I decided that we would retire in Europe as we both love it there.
We looked at several countries/cities and in the end decided on Malaga Spain. Cost of living, weather, location had an influence in our choice.
We took a two week holiday to Malaga to see what it would be like living there. Passed the test, very nice.
We started selling off our stuff and when we thought it financially possible we quit our jobs and sold the house. We moved to Austin, TX and set up residency.
I found this web site during our search for our new European home and think this is a very good resource for moving/living abroad.
I have downloaded the Expat Focus Guide. My next entry to this forum will be my questions on moving to Spain.
I am seeking advice, guidance, insight, pitfalls into how/what/where of getting a visa for Spain.
I am living in Austin TX so will be using the Spanish consulate in Houston so must follow their rules.
I have looked at their web site and printed their retirement document. It is over whelming.
I am retired and do not intend on working there.
How do you prove yearly income? The issue here is that my retirement kicks in next year so will be using savings intially for support.
Need state or FBI clearance. It does say 'or' so which would be the best to get?
Has anyone used a service to help with the process in Houston?
Any good service for a certified legal translator?
A good service for the Apostille of Hague document?
What kind of cover letter should be included. Is there a template out there to look at or a service to help with this as well?
The most confusing issue I see is how do you provide an airline ticket and housing when don't even know when the application will be approved and you can fly over there?
I hope someone can help me navigate the requirements of getting a visa for Spain.
I have seen postings from WGroleau and Caroline659 who seem to have gone thru the process from TX and hope for some insight from them as well.
