Best portuguese credit card

Post Posted: Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:40 pm

Hello everyone!
I recently moved to Portugal -Coimbra exactly- and I want to know which credit card do you recommend. I already have my card to pay mi icloud, and etc. That one I want it to remain all the same. But I want a local bank just because I know its gonna be easier if I ever need something, or if I lost it or whatever.

Hello inesalgado and welcome. I think the best answer for you is to go to Alma Shopping by the football ground. Inside you will find a branch of Activo Bank, a subsidiary of Millennium BCP. Activo is actually the Internet/telephone banking arm of Millennium, but they also have branch offices in major cities. If you pop in to open an account you will come away in about 30 minutes with an account opened, Internet banking setup, a debit card and credit card and all free. The only charges I have come across to date were to transfer money to the UK (€1.75) and to pay in a cheque drawn in euro but from an Irish bank.

If it is appropriate for you, you can also transfer money from a UK bank account without any transfer charge and at one of the best exchange rates going.

They have an excellent app for both Android and iPhones which will allow you to lock your card in the event of theft. Both the app and online bank are available in English.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Hello Ines,
I arrived in Portugal a year ago, and for me it was a bit hard to find a credit card because I was "foreign". I found this site very helpful, since I could have a quick look to all the credit cards choices in Portugal and its conditions, so maybe it helps you too: www.comparamais.pt/
Cheers
