Wine in Thailand

Post Posted: Thu May 11, 2006 6:45 pm

Hello Smile
my name ist Carolin Hummel. I am student in Germany.
This year we have a project where we should sell german
wine to thailand.

Now I am looking for figures about the wine market shares in Thailand...
I just need an estimaded number. I thougt most of the wine there will be demandes by the tourists and maybe all the international expatriates who live there.

Does someone know how many expatriates live in Thailand?
Maybe someone has experiences in the wine market in Thailand
and could give me more information about, e.g. an average price
for one bottle wine... Or the names of the most favorite wines in Thailand.

Thank you very much for your help!
Carolin

Hi Carolin.
Australian and Chilien are quite popular because of good price, comparing to french and California. Cause of the weahter that is hot and humid. Wine are difficult to keep long in Thailand. So white wine from Australia and fruitty wine from Chili are most popular. However I would recommend you to do the research with Wine Connection. The good wine distributor in Thailand. www.wineconnection.co.th Price for medium wine: around 18USD
the expensive can go from 50 - 175 USD. However these prices are high because of import tax 120-300%.
As for roughly figure of expatriate in Thailand, i can only give you the expatriates with work permit from Oct. 2003 - Sept 2004. : 24,547. This is not included tourists, temporary visa and retirement visa.
Hope this can be some help for your study.
