Can I insure a British Car?

Post Posted: Thu May 18, 2006 10:01 pm

Hi

About to move to the Hague for work, its my first time living outside the UK and puzzling about what to do with my car. Would be much easier to just bring the car over filled to the brim with all my rubbish. I will be driving on British Plates and am taxed over here but my British insurance company will only cover me for a couple of weeks. Only there for around ten months so dont want to re-register car or anything. Will an insurance company over there cover me??

Any help appreciated.

Jenny

Hello pompey pineapple,
you should be able to drive over here for at least three months on your UK insurance (I thought this was a EU requirement for insurance companies, I was told this by an Englishman I know here and my own insurers had no problem giving me three months cover for nothing - beyond that it had to be especially arranged). After that time you should be able to get extensions but it'll probably cost you.
I used to live in good old Pompey, in just off Albert road in Southsea and then next to Fratton park (still in the Premier league but where are the scummers?). I had a wonderful ten years there and still think of it as home. How about you?
