Cost of Living in Amsterdam
I am in the process of negotiating my future salary in Amsterdam with my current employer who is going to relocate me in Amsterdam.
Will appreciate very much if somebody could give information about monthly average expenditure on groceries and utilities (telephone, internet, electricity, heating, water) for a family of four (two adults and two kids below the age of 8.
If possible, official sources will be appreciated. I tried the EIU (European Intelligency Unit) and Mercer Human Resources but their reports are costly, about 500 USD.
I'm sorry I cannot give you specific amounts for your questions. I can tell you that groceries are less expensive here than in the U.S. For a family of 4 I would guess that you would spend around 100 euros a week. Phone charges here seem to run much more than in the U.S. not because of useage but infrastructure costs. Other basic utilities seem to run about the same. You don't need nor do you have air conditioners here so that cuts back on electricity charges compared to the summers in the U.S., esp. in Florida. Hopefully someone else will answer you with more specific information but hope that this will give you a general idea. Just be prepared for a big difference in weather especially coming from Florida!!
