Moving to the Netherlands in July 2005

Post Posted: Sun Apr 17, 2005 7:08 pm

Good day All,

My wife, cat and I are moving to either Amsterdam or Rotterdam in July 05. We are all Americans (not sure about the cat, but she does have a Cayman Islands passport). We all have lived in various places around the world but never in the Netherlands - visited only. Would appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Best regards

Welcome to Expat Focus!

Your first port of call should probably be here

www.expatfocus.com/exp...olland.php

where we have some basic information on a number of issues relevant to expats heading to the Netherlands.

Beyond that just shout! I should probably also mention that the Netherlands is one of the two countries for which we will be offering relocation services from this summer onwards (Italy being the other). If that's something of interest just let me know.

Kind regards,

Jamie

Hi and welcome to the Netherlands in July!!!
I am Martha, originally from the southern U.S. and I have been in Holland for almost two years. I think that most of the information you will need to know as far as requested paperwork, etc..is on this site and also on the IND site of the Netherlands. www.ind.nl. YOu will for sure want to check this out.
I am not trying to be personal but just wondering if you are relocating here for work for just to be living here and possibly retired? The reason I ask is because this is important in how you set up your residency. Have you visited here already? Housing, insurance, etc?? There are a lot of things to work out as I remember doing myself.
I live in between Amsterdam and Rotterdam and there are many American expats who are living in those regions, so once you are here, you will be able to meet several, I am sure.
Please, any questions that I might can help you with, do not hesitate to ask. I did not move any furniture or car here, just my personal possessions but those things are also to be taken into consideration. The housing here in Holland is much smaller than those in the U.S.
I do hope to hear from you and look forward to having more U.S. citizens in Dutchland!!
Martha

Welcome to the Netherlands. I am a native and you can always contact me if things aren't going to well and with basic questions about the system here.

One tip: It's normal that people don't talk to you on the train, most do welcome a chat but no one will start it with you (something with privacy LOL)
