Westerpark/Jordaan

Can anyone tell me what Donker Curtiusstraat, Westerpark/Jordaan is like to live? Myself and my husband are moving to Amsterdam at the end of the month and we're interested in an apartment there. Many thanks.

I don't know the street itself, but generally speaking the Jordaan is a fantastic place to live (picturesque, charming, quiet, good bars and restaurants, etc.)

Don't blame me if you get there and find it's the one street which is nothing like the above description though!

Cheers,

Jamie

Hi Rod

Thanks for the reply. We moved to the apartment I spoke about on 27th April, its near Val Hallstraat. We really like it. We arrived in time for Queens Day which was excellent.

Good to hear! I missed Queen's Day this year but it's nearly always a great day (as long as the weather is OK). I don't know the Val Hallstraat myself but I've just been told by my partner that it's near where her mother lives.

I hope your stay in Amsterdam is a good one, feel free to report back on how things are going (and pick our brains!)

Cheers,

Jamie

I was glad to see this thread and have been wondering about living in Westerpark. I'm coming to Amsterdam to study at UvA and it seems like a lot of students live in this area. It seems to be somewhat removed (around 20 minutes by bike?) from the center where my classes will be. If anyone has any info about this district I would really appreciate it. All I can find about it is that it is near the harbor and there is a large park and golf course. I am wondering if the area has a lot of cafes and restaurants or if it is an unsafe or too removed area. Thanks!

There are a lot of cafes and restaurants there, and a lot of young people live there. However, there are probably nicer (although more expensive) areas in Amsterdam.
