Where is everyone?

Post Posted: Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:27 pm

I have been monitoring this site for ages and there appears to be very little activity; last posting was 13 July. Is there anyone there!!!

We are definately going to move to Turkey as soon as our house has sold and are looking at Altinkum in particular. We would really appreciate all the advice and information that those of you that live there could supply.

We were originally going to Spain but have been priced out of the market there, so turned our attentions eastward.

We recently took a holiday to Altinkum and overall had a really nice time. I was a bit suspect to begin with having never been before and foolishly listened to other people stories; so my overall perception of Turkey was not very good e.g. dodgy food, dirty places and sly intimidating people.....How wrong can they have been! Excellent food, lovely places to stay, fantastic beaches, glorious scenery the whole package, and as for the people they treat you like your their most treasured and dearest relative. So having been to Spain numerous times I am really glad we have been priced out of the market there otherwise we would have really lost out!

We are looking for an apartment / house in Altinkum; we have decided to rent for at least three months before we buy and will need a place sometime after October (well thats the plan) so anyone know of a good long let please let me know.

While we were there I heard that some areas are prone to flooding during the winter months and some roads are unpassable, you can actually see the watermarks on some of the apartment buildings. We wanted to know if the area around the Migros Supermarket was a good, safe nice place to buy? or perhaps over in Yesilkent. Akbuk is off the menu, one of the villas fell off the mountain while we were there!!

We are coming to live and not buying to invest or rent, so we dont want to end up on a complex were different people are coming and going all the time, or an area that becomes a ghost town duing the winter; a nice smattering of ex pats all year would be ok for us, so any suggestions folks.
