Can anyone recommend furniture shops in Cairo

Post Posted: Sat Jan 27, 2007 8:14 pm

We will be relocating to Cairo in about a month's time. We are renting an unfurnished villa, since we found that there was huge difference in price between furnished and unfurnished. We will need the furniture anyway as we have bought an apartment in the same place, which will need furnishing in future. My problem is that when we arrive we will be going to a completely empty new home. I need to sort things out quickly, since I'm going to have other things, like schools, to sort out too. I would be really grateful if anyone could recommend some nice furniture shops.

Check out Carpet City...they have some really great stuff, bought most of my things there. Habitat is another in Nasr City.

Hi Eshta
Whereabouts in Cairo is Carpet City? Is that the name of a shop? What are prices for furniture like in Egypt. Is there a wide variety of styles? Here, in Saudi Arabia, Ikea is very popular, but there is also a lot of very attractive, heavy wooden furniture, imported from India.

You'll find very ornate stuff that is made here if that's you taste. No Ikea I'm afraid and any imported furniture is expensive. Carpet City is the name of the shop, they have several around the city..I go to the one in Nasr City...This is in Heliopolis...
There is also a furniture store in the new City Stars,,a lot of more modern stuff like you would see in the Emirates but again, expensive. Another shop to check is IN and OUT, again, one in Nasr City,,,one at the Carrefours Mall near Maadi...
You can get things made, like closets and tables etc by a carpenter..you just have to watch over the finishing. I've had closets made for the bedroom so it's more like built in if you don't want a wardrobe.
Does the rented place have a kitchen installed already? And water tanks? Thing are so different here, like right now, I'm finishing my villa and then we have to pay for a whole kitchen to be put in. Thank goodness we have water tanks and a/c s already from previous apts.
Be aware of what you are getting with your rented place.
For furniture, I would work on sofas and beds and then go from there slowly as there are so many places to look and compare prices...

Forgot, customs are so high here that that makes any imported furniture really expensive. I bought my bedroom set 2 years ago and spent 20,000 le for a king bed, 2 side tables, low dresser and large, long wardrobe. It's heavy wood but not super ornate, more what I would say is traditional in the states, I love it, solid wood.
Wish I could remember more.

There is a small company called NokNok Good Wood, they do all kinds of furniture, home, kids, office, mostly custom-built but very reasonable and great quality. I have done some business with them and can recommend them. They have a website, noknokgoodwood.com, and there is a Cairo mobile phone number, 012-219-2452. I think the owners are a German-Lebanese couple...

I have just bought a sofa from a shop called In and Out, they have a website if you want to find out where the shops are. But the offers are not always updated and the shops have much more stock to look at.

Hope it helps
