I live in Bansko which is one of the ski resorts in Bulgaria. It is a very pretty town but is being developed with lots of apartments, also it is the most expensive of the ski resorts, but there again it is a town and an all-season resort. The summer season was fairly quite this year except for people looking to buy apartments, however i think this will change. Balkan Holidays give it the first page in their summer lakes and mountains holiday brouchures.

There are some lovely villages close by that may give you good rentals. Razlog is a slightly larger town just 5km away, Banya is known for it's mineral springs and Dobrinshte also has it's own ski lift taking you upto Bezbog (even in the summer months) where there are beautiful lakes. There are about 20 UK people living in Bansko and surrounding areas and we all know each other and offer our support, although none of us want to get involved in the stereotypical expat community. We are all here to live, work and enjoy the BG lifestyle without imposing.

Borovets I can only say is also good for skiing, but as it's a resort has more of the party lifestyle in the winter and unfortunately my opinion of Samokov one of the closest towns is not high, it is very grey and depressing looking. This may change with the SuperBorovets project. There are nice villages around Borovets but they are further away from Borovets about 15km (ish)

I hope you find something you are looking for during your visit.

CL

ps Visited VT earlier in the year and I can say it is a very very beautiful place and if I didn't live in Bansko would definately consider here.

Hi Crazy

Have you lived in BG for a long time or are you married to a BG person? Or are you just selling properties in that area? It is much better if people on a forum know "where you are coming from" - whether you are totally independent, whether you have something to sell yourself, or whether you are selling on the behalf of others ????????? That way, we can all be sure and get peace of mind!

hi we have bought near the borvets. acout 30mins drive away and yes like the other person said the nearest town is samakov. but a disagree about it being depressing, it is a typical bulgarian town, they have built a few knew shops there, my first opoin of it was ugh is this it. but every time a have been over. i seem to see it in a different light, and i love it now.i suppose it depends on what you are looking for. we went over in jan and had great time at the ski resort borvets

I only started skiing in January 2004 and i've only been to Borovets and Bansko. I moved out here in December 2004 and at that time yes i was working for a real estate company. However I have now left the job and at present not working for myself or any others. So please rest assured that my comments are completely my own and not anything else.
