There is an American Womens Associaton group in Rabat, where the Embassy is located.

Correction--the American Women's Club is in Casablanca, not Rabat.

Dear Maghrebia,

Thank you for posting those two address organizations in Casa and Rabat. I am sure a lot of people will benefit from them.

I have been in Morocco for 14 years, and the Consulate never mentioned anything except the one in Casablanca to me (perhaps because of me being in Marrakesh). As far as I know, no one in Marrakesh has ever mentioned this organization in Rabat. Have they organized just in the last ten years, or have they been around longer?

Regards,
Imperial Topaz

Not sure when the Rabat club was started but did know a Rabatti Moroccan American lady who was part of it in the late nineties. (probably still..)

The Rabat AWA group has been in existence since the 60s or 70s. They have published a number of books, including a couple of cookbooks and a book for expats in Morocco. They have an excellent library with a phenomenal Moroccan book collection.
The consulate you speak of is in Casablanca I believe, Topaz. It does seem strange that they don't know what's going on less than an hour away, but that's US State Department bureaucracy in action I suppose! It seems that there is a huge separation between the Embassy and the Consulate. Anyway with the American population in Marrakesh growing like it is perhaps you should start up a group there.
