Want to meet Americans or Mexicans living in Egypt

Post Posted: Sat Oct 22, 2005 5:22 pm

I'm Mexican/American. I've been living in Egypt with my husband for about 6mths. And I think it would be great to meet Americans or Mexicans in Egypt. It does get a little lonely out here. So, I hope to hear from someone. Thanks.

I'm living in Alexandria. It's great to be living right by the sea, compared to living in Cairo where it's extremely hot for us. How is it living in Morocco?

Dear Kari,

I prefer living in Morocco to Egypt (once spent a couple of months there), as the people are more honest and not so intrusive in "spying" on others!

I asked where you were as I have a couple friends in Egypt, but they are both very far away from you, as it turns out.

I've never been to Alexandria.

Good luck to you there.

Just came back from egypt for a vacation and yes they do spy on you. They also have a lot of scammers there too that think because we're expats that we're rich. Watch your purse and watch your possessions. These people appeared desperate to me in so many ways.

I don't know if it is spying on you, but it does seem, even in Morocco, that your neighbors know much more about you than you do about them. A friend of mine, a Moroccan from Casa now living in San Francisco was visiting Rabat, and he tried to look me up. He knew I lived in a certain district, but had forgotten the street name. He knocked on a door a couple blocks away from my house thinking it was the right house. The person who lived there told him, no, but she lives at this house two blocks away: (my address). I was amazed they even knew who I was, much less where I lived! I think we tend to forget that we are very visible to the residents simply because we are foreign. Maybe that makes us more interesting to them, I don't know.
