Moving to Bulgaria
Posted: Wed Jul 27, 2005 11:25 pm
As a youngish couple with 2 kids under 10 is this a wise move?, schools!, employment!, I'm a manager in the Care Industry and also a qualified Chef, have done lots of research into moving to BG, but just can't get myself to take the next step.
Is there any one around who has done this?

Hi Sailor, For my twopennith I would say have an extended holiday but away from the resort areas, that would give you and your family a taste of 'day to day' BG. Worth remembering too is the cost of living, works in your favour when you are spending but a different perspective when earning a living, I am sure you have thought of this. Most Brits, me included, look to retire (early) there as any pension/savings are given a boost on purchasing power. That said, if you do move, the standard of living, education etc is as good as anywhere.

Hi Sailor,
A warm welcome to Expat Focus and our forums!
Well, I think Woodman's got it spot-on with his advice...try to stay somewhere away from the tourist hotspots, to get a more realistic view of what it would be like to live in BG.
It seems to be a real up-and-coming place, and of course up for EU entry in 2007, so buy property sooner rather than later
Keep in touch and good luck,
Jo

Thanks for the advice woodman, appreciated, I think thats a good idea to have a holiday away from the usual resorts, its leaving a good secure job to start afresh in another country which worries me, not so much the leaving the UK, I was in the navy 12 years, more the gaining employment aspect of living there. Fortuanatly we will have about 80K to take when the house is sold, so obviously this will give us a good start, once again cheers

Hi.I have 3 girls age 16,13 & 10 and we moved to France from the Uk 13 years ago.I am now looking to buy a property in Bulgaria but because of the girls schooling won't move permanantly untill the youngest has finished school. For me language is the key,the kids will learn quickly at school it will be much harder for you.Getting a well paid job in rural France is very difficult and I imagine Bulgaria will be the same unless you
are self employed .Good luck

Hi,
I too have small children and their education is a key factor for me in deciding whether to move to the Bulgarian coast. Does anyone have any ideas regarding international/private schools in Varna or Burgas?
All the best,
M
