Hi Nick,
Just like Bruxinha explains you should have by now gotten health cards from the Centro de Saude you registered at. This not only enables you to get discounts when going to the chemists but you will also need them if ever going to the emergency at the hospital. I would just go back to the Centro de Saude and ask about why you haven't gotten them yet. Let me know if you need me for any translating.
Sylvie

Hi Sylvie,

Hope you are on the mend.
We may have lost a lot in translation when we registered there last year.
We have not got a Social Security Number so I guess that we can't have applied for any health cards.
It was all done with the new European Health Cards (E111) that we got issued before we left the UK.

We went today but it was so busy that Tracey made an appointment for 3pm on Monday so we'll see how it all pans out then.

Thanks for the offer, we may have to take you up on that.
How is the visit going?

Will see you both soon,

Nick.

Hi Nick,
I am slowly but surely getting better. Unfortunately I have had so many problems with my ears and so many ear infections in my lifetime that I really shouldn't have left it this long. No one to blame but myself.
The visit is going great. We went to Obidos the other day for the first time. Wonderful place! And yesterday we went to Sintra to visit the Palace of Pena. Amazing! I highly recommend it.
Hope everything goes well on Monday. And remember, if you need any help you know where to find me!
Cheers,
Sylvie

We went to our Centro de Saúde for Traceys 3pm Doctors appointment today and were suprised to be handed our new Cartões de Saúde.
A bit of a shock because we didn't know we had applied for them but a pleasant shock for a change.
I assume that the number on the card is the Social Security Number that we have been issued.
Seeing the Doctor cost € 2.10 and the prescription ( ear drops, antibiotics and painkillers ) was € 9.45.
