Hi Joan,

We have the following information in our Brazil guide:

Domestic pets (dogs, cats or domesticated birds) being brought to Brazil are required to have a health certificate issued within 4 days of travel, endorsed by the Brazilian consulate in your home country.

Dogs and cats over three months old must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days but no more than 12 months before export to Brazil. The vaccination certificate (Form EXA25) must be endorsed by the Brazilian Consulate General in your home country

There are no requirements for quarantine of pets on arrival in Brazil.

I recommend you check the above info to make sure it's still accurate (and if it's not, let me know!). Hope that helps.

I was also interested in taking a healthy dog into Brazil and was told that due to Brazil being a RABIES free country distinction (or some sort of restriction) that ANY dog would be forced into a 6 month quarantine regardless of any documentation provided otherwise stating the dog was RABIES free.
In addition, a vet (unknown, no apparent ax to grind) informed me that the documentation that is listed as required may not be sufficient and that the costs were substantial.

This vet's opinion was that BRAZIL was not a easy country to import your healthy animal into.

"...and was told that due to Brazil being a RABIES free country."

Opps! No it isn't, in fact some local authorities provide regular free preventative vaccination for pets.
Regards,

Twofilas.
