Hi Rob:
I just want to know what moving companies some people might have used, do I need to apply for a import permit when I get to the Netherlands or before I come, etc...Just your moving experience.
Thank You

To be honest I didn't apply for any kind of permit (having moved from the UK) so my own personal experience probably isn't of much help. Perhaps the situation's different if you're moving from the US.
Martha, are you out there? Any idea?
Jamie

Hi all,
Yes I am here now. Just arrived back in Holland from my trip to the U.S. for the past 3 1/2 weeks. !! PHew!! haha
As to shipping things to Holland...depends on what you want to ship. If you are shipping furniture and large items, you can do that by shipping companies with a container. If you are just shipping your personal items, clothes, etc..then I would recommend doing that my regular post office mail/parcel. It is by far the cheapest way to send things but it is the slowest. YOu can expect to wait at least 6 to 8 weeks for the arrival of the boxes. I did not personally move furniture and sent all my things by mail or in my suitcases..still doing that this last trip..haha. I do know of others who have used containers, so if that is the route you want to take, let me know and I will see what information I can find out for you.
I would recommend being careful about hwat you bring here as houses, apts. tend to be much much smaller than in the U.S. and appliances won't work here anyway.

Good to have you back, Martha. Does that help, Nisha, or are there any other points you have in mind?

Thank you Martha for your response. I sure got some information from you. That is funny you said becareful with furniture because I was thinking that the house I am moving into is pretty small. Martha when you shipped your belongings over here via the postal company did you have to apply for a import permit and what about duty taxes? ummmm lets see what else....That would be great if you could get some information from other folks you know that moved to the Netherlands.
Thanks Martha & Rob
