Technical Author/Editor looking for work in der Nederlands

Post Posted: Fri Sep 09, 2005 6:34 pm

Dear All,
I am moving to Holland asap (but probably next year) for love but need money to stay.
I've worked in the IT/software industry for over 12 years and was also a freelance journalist for about four years. I'm looking for work in southern Holland, preferably, as I will be living in Oosterhout.
I've been having a look at the various websites of employment agencies in the UK and in Holland but have come up with nothing so far.
Has anyone got any suggestions or contacts? I am learning Dutch but have only just started so cannot manage anything much beyond getting served in a cafe.
Cheers,
Mick.

Mick,

Welcome to Expat Focus. Some links which might be of use:

www.adamsrecruit.nl
www.bluelynx.nl
www.englishlanguagejobs.com
www.projob.nl
www.undutchables.nl
nl.randstad.com/home/index.xml

The market for IT jobs has become tougher over the past few years, especially for the non-Dutch speaker. In general, people are finding it takes a lot longer to find a job than it used to. You may also find it more difficult to find a job near you in the south, most of the jobs are in the Randstad area further north (e.g. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht).

None of the above is intended to put you off but starting your search as early as possible, as you are doing, is certainly a wise course of action.

Good luck and all the best with your move to the Netherlands!

Kind regards,

Jamie

Rod,
Thanks for your help. I know what you mean about the market being harder. Possibly even more of a challenge when your main job focus is writing in English.
I think I feel a career change coming on...

Always good to be flexible, you never know what's around the corner!

Good luck with the move and keep in touch (I'm also a British expat with an IT background living in the Netherlands so we have something in common!) Feel free to post again with any other queries and we'll do what we can to help.

Cheers,

Jamie
