Cobourg??

Post Posted: Fri Jul 11, 2008 11:23 pm

Hi all, Lisa (wifey) here!!

We have been looking at various locations within Canada and one that has seriously taken my fancy is Cobourg. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on this area in more detail than we have found on the internet please?

I have an online friend who lives in Brighton which is nearby this area, but when I looked on the Cobourg website I can honestly tell you I had goosebumps it was so beautiful!

I am aware that the idea of the website is to sell the area, and if you go on the Swansea one it looks beautiful too, so was just looking for some insider info!! LOL!!

Thanks again
Lisa

LIsa :

Cobourg is a really NICE town, with pretty streets and homes. It has a long history ( for Canada, remember this is the NEW world, litteraly ) and I'd retire there if I had to.

I did some looking and came up with a number of websites about the town and the surrounding area. Here we go.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...g,_Ontario

ca.epodunk.com/profile...00496.html

www.town.cobourg.on.ca/

www.cobourghistory.ca/

This is a new condominium development in the town of Cobourg. Take a look at what they offer and the prices. Remember that TWO Canadian dollars equal ONE GBP. It is a renovation of the largest original muti story brick public school in the town, built in 1904.

www.mansionsongeorge.ca/index1.htm

As I said, this town is undergoing a revival, with lots of new residential buildings, and some very interesting renovations to Victorian era homes . Many of the re-sale homes are large, with 2 floors, and many have been "done over " in the past 10 years, so they have modern wiring and windows.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Hi Jim,

Thanks so much for those links, we had only seen one of them, so the others were great. I am glad you think it is a nice place I really do fancy it, and now that my parents are interested in coming over too, along with my both brothers, we may end up all moving over! Laughing

Andy :

Cobourg has lots to commend it, as does Port Hope, just down the road. Both have long ( for Canada ) histories and many interesting places to explore.

Here is a link to a review about the town and some of it's beautiful buildings.

www.bootsnall.com/name...ourg.shtml

Here is a link to a article about Port Hope, know as the "Antique capital of Ontario ".

Enjoy the information, and let me know what you think about these towns.

Andy ;

No problemo.

Just to rub it in, it's 25C and sunny here today.

By the way, there are many "place names " here in Ontario that you will recognise. I grew up in a part of west end Toronto that is called Swansea. Also in the Toronto area , are Scarborough, Whitby, York, Weston, Durham, and Sutton.

Jim,

It is nice and warm here today as well, but the forecast is rain for the weekend!!! (typical British summer!!).

I recognise the Swansea name very well, that is where we live!! I will take some pictures of our Swansea and post them for you to compare to your Swansea.

Cheers

Andy
