Importing a car
Posted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 11:54 pm
Right folks, what's the SP on importing a car to Bulgaria if you live here?
Second hand vehicles seem expensive through local channels. Is there any benefit in picking up something from elsewhere in the EU through autotrader or eng.autoscout24.com (check that one out, it's good). Or does BG customs sting you for loads of tax?
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has managed - or even tried - to bring in a car from the EU... especially if they have managed to register it in BG!
No suggestions about running a UK-plated car in BG please. Unless it has a current UK MOT, tax and insurance it's just as illegal as it would be in Britain; I don't want to go there 'cos I hate foreign prisons.

Hi Goose
We brought both our left hand cars in with us.Both on British plates.Had no problems reregistering with BG plates. No extra tax just the registration,BG tax and vinette.Did get a Bulgarian to assist as a very long drawn out process in Varna (probobly everywhere!!)
Hope this helps.
