Planned trip to Bulgaria,Do we need Visas??

Post Posted: Mon Oct 17, 2005 2:45 pm

Laughing My social club in Thessaloniki Greece are planning a day trip to Bulgaria, for shopping ect, some of our members are from America and Australia, so do they need a Visa to get over the border? I know that I can just go over on my passport. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I'm an American that travels to Bulgaria every year and I'm looking to immigrate there soon. For your American guests they do not need a visa before entering Bulgaria. They can stay up to 30 days without a visa. If they plan to stay longer than 30-days they'll need to apply for a visa D (which is an extended stay visa) before they enter Bulgaria. I've been told that it takes about 5 weeks to obtain this kind of visa.

Also, once they get into Bulgaria (for the 30-day or less stay) they must register within 48 hours with the police in their respective city. If they're staying at a hotel then the hotel will usually do this for them. If there are other arrangements then they must have a Bulgarian take responsibility for them when they register.

I'm not sure how it works with your Australian guests but I'm sure that it is a similar situation. Hope you have a great trip and enjoy Bulgaria!
