need info on places to buy

Post Posted: Thu Nov 10, 2005 1:18 am

Can anyone give info on the following areas please,? Boyanovo, Elhovo, Granitovo. We are going to view some houses in these places next week and would like some honest opions [not agents salestalk!] Also are there any cheap houses where our fellow Brits live. Thanks everyone.

Hi Di

We just did a feature on this area including Elhovo and Granitovo.

The area is very popular with the British - Granitovo being the most popular village at the moment. The area is relatively flat with big open fields, woods, many rivers; and you can see to Turkey. It's only a few kms from the new checkpoint between Bulgaria and Turkey. I also interviewed a couple of buyers from there and they told me that it is a very good family area too and the prices are still reasonable. Hope that helps a bit

Hi,
Thanks for the info, we have arranged to view four houses in Granitovo next week through Bulgarian Properties.Com. We have not dealt with them before and hope they are ok to do business with. We have not a lot of experience with regards to buying, as this house was only the second one we saw, fell in love with it and decided to take the plunge! so here we are. Where can I see the feature you have done on the area please?

Hi Di

You'll find it in the November issue of the magazine which is due off press at the weekend!

We've done three pages on property in the area (hot villages, what you can get for your money, why buy in that area); two pages interview with a couple of people who had bought there; then several pages about the area in general (what it's like, what to see, etc)

hi Allandy
we're just back from that area. We looked at a lot of villages. Popova is a nice village not a stone's throw away from Elhovo. There are some Brits there. We couldn't find what we were looking for [ we can't do steps nor stairs] but it seemed a nice wee village. The Oasis restaurant in Elhovo is a good place to meet folks from the UK in fact, it gets called the English restaurant. The food is delicious. We finally bought a property in Mlekarevo which is close to Yambol, Sliven and Elhovo. I'm sure you'll find something to suit your needs somewhere in that area. Good Luck.
We went with Bulgarian Properties after we'd had a rotten experience with another firm. BulgProps were brilliant!! They really looked after us - held our hands almost - through the whole process. The team in Elhovo are superb. Tell them that Jan & Harley are asking for them. Elvira, Dessie and the drivers are kind and helpful at all times. Then the team in Sliven esp Reneta and Jenko as well as Polina & Ivan in Sofia are totally reliable. We felt more like friends than clients. I hope you have the same good experience that we had.
Jan & Harley

Hi Jan, Thanks for you very informative info.It makes us happy to know we are not alone in having a rotton agent!! no names mentioned. We spent a lot of money on the house we have bought, and were promised it would be luxury.I won't bore you with all the problems , there are too many. It so happens the architect was also the owner!!! who happens to have the same office as the agents!!! Anyway my husband is a very good joiner and after five weeks of hell when we first arrived ,he has sorted everything out. {We hope} Through it all we love the house and fab views. We are looking forward to meeting BG Properties next week, they have booked us a hotel and we have quite a few houses to look at. We will be visiting the place you mentioned, and will pass on your messages. When will you be moving here? It will be nice to meet up and have a natter. We are the only Brits here, although our neighbour speaks English. We will rent this house out to skiers and live in whatever we buy near Elhovo. We have to make a living so it makes sense to do this, although it is such a great shame to have to rent this out, needs must. We are very lucky to be able to live here, if you come you won't regret it.
Take care.

hi Di
just a wee note to say thanks for answering. Harley just remembered that there was a lovely house in Boyadchik ref SNA 235 which we loved but there were too many steps for us. it might be worth a look -i t was in very good condition with a lovely garden - it might be sold but I don't know. It is a very nice village with good facilities. I'm sure you'll find something to suit you. We won't be coming out until maybe March/April as our house needs some work first. We are waiting for the floor plan from the builder. If you are still thereabouts when we come out it would be nice to meet up for a blether [natter] all the best
Jan
