New in Rome and Looking for Friends

Post Posted: Mon Nov 14, 2005 12:23 am

Hi everyone..

I was sitting in my office on a sunday, desperately going through the expat websites hoping to find something good, and ran into the ExpatFocus page. Looks great and I want to give it a go.

26 yr old guy, working in financial services, recently moved from London to Rome. I am originally from Istanbul but I have been living abroad for the last 6-7 years. Spent 5 years in New York (grad school and then working), then moved to London and lived/worked for 1.5 years over there and about 2 weeks ago moved to Rome for my new assignment. For some reason my move to Rome felt like the most difficult one possibly because 1) I don't speak the language 2) Italians don't seem to speak english except in touristy areas 3) I don't have any friends here..

That being said, I was hoping to find some friends.. people to go out with, dinners, drinks, weekend activities etc. I would appreciate if you could let me know if anyone would be interested in meeting up for drinks etc. This is such a beautiful city and it would be much better to enjoy it with friends around.

Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks..

Cinar

Hi Cinar,
first of all welcome to Expat focus and hope you will find the information on the page interesting.
I understand your situation, is always like that at the beginning and romans can be a bit 'snob' sometimes (this is a generally opinion in italy).
The first suggestion is start to learn a bit the language, it is always an help and then try the www.rome.meetyou.fr
I can not tell you if the site is good, but they are also in our forum.
I wish you a good luck and enjoy la cittá eterna

Bye
Milly
