Hi everyone,

We ,(myself, my chap, our son and the cat), recently moved to Nova Scotia from the UK and so far we're having a ball! If anyone has any questions about the process or how we're finding it here then let me know as I'm happy to help.

I'm also writing a blog about our experiences if anyone is interested. Just let me know and I'll give you the address Smile

My name is Bill and I am a retired US citizen, 62 years old. I currently live near Sarasota Florida. I've found that Florida is not the place that I thought it would be. I have met a wonderful lady from Hamilton ON. After several trips spanning almost a year, I find that Canada might be the place I have always been looking for. My girlfriend an I have been talking about making the relationship permanent but I am totally confused on what steps I need to take to either move to Canada permanently or do the 6 month here and 6 month there "snowbird" thing. I was hoping that I could find someone who has made the leap on this forum. Hopefully I placed this note in the right place. Regards to all, Bill

Hello Group:
I'm new to this forum and have already learn a lot of good info.
I'm married, 49, my wife is 43 and we live in the U.S. in the midwest. We are into homesteading and self-sufficiency. We have both gone back to school due to the job market. I'm getting my BS in Psychology and my wife is getting her degree in teaching. I'm thinking about getting my teaching certificate after I complete my degree.
We would like to buy acreage and have a small farm. We have been looking in the Cochrane area due to land prices being reasonable. We intend to build our own log home and live off the grid.
I'm interested in any advice anyone has for me. Other possible areas to consider, U.S. citizen who have recently made the move. Issues with visas and time frames, ect...
Thanks and I look forward to all of your help !
Have a great day!

I'm 26, married and currently live in Perth, Australia and we are moving to Cochrane, AB in December 2012. I've lived there for 5 months in 2007 and have missed it ever since and want an adventure before we have kids - hence our plan to move to Canada. I also have extended relatives in AB so we'll have some support.

I'm a teacher but I'm not sure if I'll teach when I come to Canada - might try something different (ie - a job that doesn't make me do marking on a weekend!) Smile My husband is a pharamcist.

We are looking forward to the snowy winter weather and doing activities that we can't do in Perth.

We'll never know what it's really like until we move but I'm trying to get as mentally prepared for what's in store for us!
