Legally disposing of a UK car

Post Posted: Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:19 am

Hi Guys,

A while ago I drove from the UK through Europe, into Turkey and on into Iran and beyond. I had a great time and would love to do it again but these days can’t get long periods off work, so I’m looking at organising a road trip with a few friends – ideally we would drive through Europe to Istanbul in cheap cars, then scrap them and fly home. (in truth we would rather donate them to charity but I gather registering the cars would be impossible so they’d be of no use to a charity)

If we enter as tourists with our UK cars entered in our passports how difficult would it be to dispose of them legally? Can a scrap yard provide the documentation or do we need to hand the cars to customs?

Basically I’m looking for any way to make this work. I don’t want to cut out Turkey as Istanbul was the highlight of my last trip.

Many thanks.
