Importing car from Spain To Portugal

Post Posted: Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:10 pm

A British friend of mine is trying to import his car from Spain to Portugal. He previously was a resident in Spain and now lives here in Portugal. He is having problems arranging a document to prove he has given up pernamently his residency in Spain.

Does anyone know where he should get this from.... better still does anyone have a draft of what this letter/document should look like??

Any help greatly appreciated, Ged

p.s the idea is not to pay the I.A (imposto automovel)

Ged
When I was asked for a document to prove that I had left the UK I protested that there was no such thing. One simply left.
Portuguese Customs explained that if I went to the British Consolate in Portimao I would be able to get the document. I did so, and after swearing on oath that the information I had given re addresses, length of stay, departure date, etc was correct - and parting with about 50 euros - I was given a certificate to satisfy the Portuguese requirement.
Your friend may find that the Spanish Consolate have also devised something in order to allow their citizens to satisfy the stupid Portuguese regulations.

lol I have read your story on importing a car... I understand your distaste of how it all works! Smile

Thanks for the info Bill... seems the Spanish Consolate must be the way to go(local Spanish authorites where he was seem to think there is no such document also)
