Removal from Norway to England

Post Posted: Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:48 am

After living in Norway for seven years, we are now planning to move back to England. I've got some quotes for furniture removal, and they range from kr30 000 to kr60 000, which seems a bit steep. Anybody know of a cheaper way to do it??
Thanks, Sara

Hi Sara,
Welcome to the forum, even if your leaving for the UK again I hope you will remain a visiting member as after 7 years in Norway I am sure you can offer some good advice to other people here.

With regards your question for removals, where in Norway are you located? I know of a British based company Britannia that has regular runs to Norway and also some consultants here that put together a hired a container between them, This was all down in the Stavanger area, if you like I can make some enquiries and get back to you? For your information, when my wife moved to the UK 12 years ago she paid around £3,000 to a British company, we will look and see who that was also.

Regards

Eamonn

Hi Eamonn,

Thanks alot for your reply. Any help or contacts will be greatfully received. It seems like about kr30 000 is the cheapest quote around. We live in Larvik, Vestfold, and are moving to Yorkshire.

Of course I'll remain a visiting member... it's so interesting reading the stuff on here.... just a shame I didn't discover the site until I'm moving home again!!

Thanks again, Sara (saralayton72@hotmail.co.uk)

Hi Sara,
Did you know DFDS run a service from Brevik to the UK? Not sure on prices though. Will ask in work after the Easter holidays about shared containers and let you know, you may have to get your belongings over to Stavanger though.

Regards

Eamonn

We lived in Sweden and needed to move back to the UK. Myself, my wife, my brother and my Mum. I flew to England and hired a big Luton and drove back. My brother and I loaded and drove back to England and unloaded. Total cost? £400 for the truck plus £200 in Diesel. £100 for the ferries and £60 for the Danish bridges. Plus we loaded the cars with stuff.

If these guys are still around they will move you for about £2000, (Talk them down!) www.bmceuropean.com/ and they are very good guys. They normally do Spain. Depends how much stuff you have of course as their outfit is a very big Iveco Van and box trailer. They also moved our friends from Sweden and the £2000 included a few nights storage.

One question, why are you moving back to England? It is completely sh&* there now. When we went back we were burgled while we slept, one of our cars was nicked and the other vandalised. We lived in a detached bungalow in a leafy village in Buckinghamshire before you ask! We lasted 10 months before we left again. Don't want to be a downer but after living abroad are you sure you want to go back there?
