Car buying and insurance

Post Posted: Mon Jul 05, 2010 12:20 am

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello All,
I will be moving to BC in Oct to look for a business to purchase. My idea was to fly into Calgary buy a truck and a camper and then head off to BC to follow my dream.
Sounds easy right......... well I may have hit my first pot hole.
As`I said was going to buy a truck but by reading some of the threads it may be that I can't unless i have a permanent address which I don't until I purchase the business, anyway around this.
I've known of people 9 though I don't know them personally) who have bought a car in BC and travelled over to Toronto before selling it on and I guess it would have been fully insured.
Any input would be so appreciated.

Hi Lisa
Would you be planning to pay cash or require financing for a truck? Obviously with cash it is a lot easier than financing. However if you have any friends or contacts in Canada, could you perhaps use their address as a "stopgap" until you get your own address? I know when my parents travelled in the US, they used a distant relative's address in Florida as their contact address - just another idea that might be worth thinking about.

Hi Lisa

Here's a link to ICBC, the provincial vehicle insurance company - it may help answer some of your questions. If you're unsure, you can contact them via email and they'll provide the information you'll need.
