Best city to live in?

Post Posted: Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:50 pm

What would you say is the best city to live in on the south side of Cyprus?

I'm looking for a place that isn't too small, it must be a real city.
The prices shouldn't be tourist-prices.
It would be great if the city was close to the sea and had some nice beach.

In my opinion the best city to live in is Limassol (Lemesos), it is well located for most places in Kypros, and is near the Trudos mountains. Don't expect Kypros to be cheap now, the prices have risen alarmingly since the common market came. The best way to do things is get some short term acomodation and look for a flat, there are still some cheap ones around. The best time to visit is in the low season from september onwards. The weather is still quite good (I have been swimming on xmas day) but the nights get a bit colder. I hope this helps, any further questions, don't hesitate Very Happy

Well this is a mute point we all have our favourite city or area of Cyprus to live in, of course if you need to work and you can find any of it the larger cities like Limassol or Nicosia, Larnaca will be better suited, but if retirement early or otherwise I would always chose the Pafos area, better scenery for a start not flat, beaches though are not that good but it has it's share if you like sand, I don't, and yes cost of living has risen here as in all other parts of the EU but the problem for many ex pats me included is not price rises as these have not been that bad here but the exchange rates from sterling to the €, dire for many on low incomes, I am one of those, but I can survive OK here, no way could I live in the UK on my income, but we can here in Cyprus.

My advice is suck it and see, do not burn all your bridges, rent for short periods only, test the almost none existent job market, work has always been hard to find here, now it is almost impossible be warned!!

I do though wish you all the best.

I would be interested to know how you got on since you posted this message. Did you go to Cyprus, if so which area. Please let me know.

I would definitely recommend Limassol www.directtraveller.co...-of-cyprus as you will get the local life, be in touch with tourists, have the buzz of a city and be close to the beach
