Real Estate Agents in Bulgaria Good? Bad? Other?

Post Posted: Wed Jan 11, 2006 7:09 am

Hello All!!!

I am coming to Bulgaria soon to look at properties. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on good real estate companies to contact for tours or companies to stay away from.

I have been to Bulgaria several times (even living there for 3 months). But I have minimal experience with real estate agents there so any advice will help. I'm looking at the areas around the Black Sea, Near Veliko Turnovo, or Blagoevgrad.

Thanks!

Hi
Its a very personal experience and many people have found the agents they used as either being from brilliant to useless. I had a great Agent, who made sure everything was OK took me round to about 10 different properties and never chaged a Lev for this service. Someome told me they hated the way the same Agent was to them. So really, I believe that finding the correct property in the right area is the biggest of decisions.I bought in Obrochishte but in hindsight I wish I had invested in Varna itself, as in reality I spend more time there as I have spent in Obrochishte. Its the nightlife
Search the web find places that interest you and try different agencies until you are happy. I have met a few people in BG who pay an agent for a few days of intense viewing, and a lot of them have felt that they only showed them what the agent wanted to sell them and a lot of choice was taken from them. Others I pesume find thier ideal property this way

Mike

Thanks so much for the quick responses! I am looking to go next month and need to set up some sort of tour. If anyone could recommend a particular company that they've done business with I would appreciate it. I just don't want to start from scratch.

Try Dobrin Peltekov at www.bgproperties.biz

He helped me and a friend to find a house each and has been helping us ever since with builders, finding a gardener etc etc. He lives in Veliko Turnovo and is thoroughly trustworthy, his local knowledge and contacts are invaluable. I preferred to put my faith in him rather than a big agency of which there are now many in VT, they either add their whack to the asking price of the property or by charging hefty fees for setting up the company, registering with notary etc.

Hmmm, well dealing with agencies all the time, living here, my husband doing business here since 86, my father being Hungarian.... I think we have heard it all regarding real estate agents.

I agree with jjmdd - it is, as we have said before, down to you. You will always hear good and bad from all sorts of people about agents. At the end of the day, they have maybe one single experience of that agent... and so, are not particularly experienced (although well intentioned) to comment and give advice.

My feeling would be, talk to as many as you can especially over the phone so that you get a feel for them personally and then make up your own mind....

I am sure this is not much help, but I am not sure that "name and shame" or "they were great" is much help either.

Anyway, all the best of luck... one thing I would certainly look out for is longevity - if they have been doing business for say 15 years, there is a reason to still be in business

All the best, Jain
