Importing a dog from the UK to Spain

Post Posted: Tue Nov 16, 2010 9:16 pm

We need information regarding importing our dog (bitch, neutered, vaccinated) into Spain. Does she need to have a rabies jab before entry. We will be moving in Feb/Mar of next year. Be grateful of any info at all.

If your Dog is correctly chipped and with passpport, then you do not need to get a rabies jab - providing you are bring it directly from the UK to Spain. It is only required when bringing a dog into the UK. The exact regulations change from time to time and the best source of information for you to look at will be the DEFRA website.

Hi it would be wise for your dog to have a rabies vacination you cannot be to careful. Do you also know about the Scalibor collars and the injection for heartworm. The Vets in Spain would give you advice they are also very cheap. Very Happy

Yes! Rabies jab is all part of getting the pet passport.

I brought my two dogs over 2 years ago and did the whole passport thing, and then they were never even checked once throughout the whole journey (by car via Eurotunnel) - but you do still need to do it all!

Your vet is the best source of advice.
