Vale Da Telha Aljezur and Western Algarve
Subforums: Property for Sale/Rent, 2nd Hand Items for Sale/Wanted
We are moving/semi retiring to Vale da Telha next year and would like to make contact with anyone who is interested in getting together or just sharing ideas and experiences regardless of Nationality.
It would be nice for example to create a directory of tried and tested services in the area
where can I get Portuguese lessons?
who can install broadband
who can plant my lawn with that Bemuda Grass and will not charge me the earth.
My PC has gone wrong...who can I call out to fix it?
Can we share lifts to and from the airport?
The list is endless but unless you already have a close network of friends in the area many simple tasks may be daunting as we do not understand the language.
So please regardless of Nationality, if you live there or are moving there lets pool our information, ideas and support.
Having just moved out of Vale da Telha, I hope I can help!
Firstly , you're moving to a beautiful area, the people are very friendly, the beaches the best in Europe, I think - and right on your doorstep. All in the middle of a vast natural park!
You can find many ads for Portuguese lessons in the Algarve Resident - a weekly newspaper in english indispensible for the english speakers over here. There are listings for both private and group lessons. But better than that, the local Vale da Telha residents assoc give free portuguese lessons on Thursday mornings. They also have a library and can organise things like post deliveries for you.
My broadband was installed by Sapo (http://www.sapo.pt). All you need is a phone line installed.
There's no problem finding people for these sorts of services once you have moved into the area. There's a good community spirit and grape-vine and you'll soon get to learn who does what and where and for the best price!
Fixing you PC and anything else you are likely to come across are all covered in the Algarve Resident - maybe you should subscribe before you move over here to get more of a feel of what's available.
Hope that helped!

If you wish to learn Portuguese you can start now with a Portuguese native speaker from Brazil?

Hi just found this site and saw the postings about Vale da Telha. We are in the process of having a villa built which should be completed in late summer 2005 and would love to hear from anyone who is out there.

A very warm welcome to Expat Focus and our forums, nice to hear from you.
What a popular area Vale de Telha and the Western Algarve seem to be for relocation, there must be a load of expats there!! That'll be nice, as the community seems friendly and willing to help each other out.
Let us know how you get on, best of luck with getting your villa built and everything sorted! Sunshine here you come!
